Well, Zoe' went out after we heard one of the chickens making funny noises, and there was one of our big black hens laying... we've been getting one egg a day, but today, there were two - and by the looks of it, our black hens are laying extra large eggs...

Must be from the Aluminum shavings you are feeding them.
When you break that big one open you'll probably find it has a double yoke! This happens commonly when hens first start laying.
