2nd Place - the Airstream had something to do with it!

Well, we did the car show thing yesterday in Norwich, NY. Every Memorial Day, there is a huge Cruise in on Friday night, then Saturday is Hot-Rods and Sunday is Antique days. We took the Wagoneer and Caravel (both 65s) down on Saturday. It was great, and we even brought home some hardware too! 2nd Place in the Commercial 4WD division. Not bad, considering the Jeep isn't even done yet (most of the interior was missing - front seat only). Today, I've been working on the floor to the 60 Trade Wind, and trying to catch up on some lawn mowing. We might have a Courtesy Parker tomorrow - someone coming in from Region 2 for our Pageant of Bands Rally. Enjoy the pictures!

Our 65 Package

Well, I made it home. I stopped in to the Region 2, and it was nice. I stayed an hour or so, checking out who was there, and driving through. About 131 trailers / motorhomes there, mostly all new. The Vintage trailers, most of our WDCU members, were over under the trees. Here's a picture of the little Caravel in tow! It was a nice little fairgrounds.

The main reason, besides seeing my wife and kids (of course) was to get home, and get the front seat of our Wagoneer, and finish polishing the rear end caps of the Caravel, to go the Memorial Day Antique car show here in Norwich, NY. Friday night is the Cruise in, and I wanted to go. So, I spent the afternoon in my Uncle's shop, putting in the seat, and getting the rear hitch installed. It looks sweet. Here is the 65 Wagoneer and 65 Caravel at the Cruise In. It was a hit! Tomorrow, it'll show up at the show!

A Little more polishing on the Caravel

Sorry for the resolution... I'm using my TREO 600 camera and it's not the best. I ran out of my polish tonight. Only two more panels to go on the first cut. I think it's looking pretty good. Enjoy!

It's looking good. About 1/2 way done with first cut. Now, more tomorrow night and then pulling from here to the north on Thursday evening.

Bringing it home!

Well, the parts trailer did not even get out of Maryland. I was in Frederick, got a call from Kim on the forums, who left a number for her dad. I called him, he was about 10 minutes from Frederick, and within an hour I was unhooking the trailer in his driveway - it will be restored, and add to the stat of 65% of every Airstream is still on the road, vice being dismantled for parts - 50-50 on who said to part (many need parts) and on who said "How dare you Rob!". In my heart, I did not want to part it up! So, now, I am back in Northern VA, where I am prepping our 65 Caravel for a trip home. It has been a while since it's moved at the Campground (Aqui Pines) it is located, so I'm working on getting her ready. We'll start the trek north on Thursday, where I'll probably swing by the Region 2 Rally in Gettysburg, say hello, and get home sometime Friday morning. We are still debating if we are going to sell this little jewel or not. If ya see me, give a wave! SYDTR!

Got another Airstream - Parts machine???

Back here in Northern Virginia. I stopped on my way last night and picked up our new to us Airstream...yup another one. ack at four of them. The trailer was up in College Park, MD, so I stopped on my way and brought it here to the camp ground ($2 a night storage). I might part it, not really sure. The inside is mostly gutted, making it perfect for a custom restoration for someone, but the door lock, front windows, awning, ac, hub caps...all are something someone might want too....decisions, decisions....I have Reserves this weekend, so nothing happening with the Trade Wind. More next week, we've got a long Memorial Day weekend coming up. I'll tow the 1970 29' Ambassador home on Sunday - at least I think that is what it is????? I can't keep track.

Floor work begins!

I need to repair the front floor rot, as the trailer is starting to show some structural integrity issues on the lower front center section of the skin....showing some buckling as the floor inside is comlpetely rotted around the front. So, tonight I started tearing into the front floor. I will replace all the front floor section with new 5/8 plywood. Now, to just find the time.
The rally we are hosting is 1 June!

Back from the Catskills

Well, last week, I spent my time in Camp Pendleton, CA. The Celtic Festival rally last weekend was a blast and the Trade Wind served us well. So, when I got home on Friday, Zoe' had the trailer packed and so we headed off to the North South Lake State Park in the Catskill mountains. Before we left, we headed over to my Uncles so that I could get a peek of the 65 Wagoneer all painted. Here are a couple photos. Next, we went to the State Park. On Saturday, we went over to Woodstock, NY and then over to Mt. Tremper, NY - home of Kate's Lazy Meadows Motel - an Airstream motel nestled in the Catskills. It was a hoot! We especially liked the B-52s and the Tiki trailers. We got home late tonight, after spending a great weekend with the family and Mother's day. The boys and I took Zoe' out for breakfast this morning, and one after another, we stopped at antique stores on the lazy way home!

Well, we are all packed and ready to go, sort of. I still have to put stuff like wood, the bikes, chairs etc in the truck. Here are a couple pictures from last night. This weekend is a weekend of relaxation - won't be polishing that is for sure. We are hoping for good weather too! SYDTR!

A little here, a little there

I did a little more polishing last evening before it got dark. The trailer polishes up nicely for first pass. The section above the wheel took about 15 minutes. More will be done tonight. Getting ready to head to the Celtic Festival Rally on Friday. Here is our next polishing project. It's an old Aero-Craft aluminum boat. It'll look sweet polished!

Down and out!

Well, nothing got done in regards to the Trade Wind yesterday.....I was down and out with a bug or maybe too much sun on Sunday....I spent the entire day in bed. Ugh! So, here is one more photo of the trailer that I could not get to load on Sunday night. Take care.
